Mustangs double up on Warriors 4-2

Game Summary

The Waterloo men's hockey team (6-4-1) lost their fourth game of the season as they fell to the No. 5 Western Mustangs 4-2 on Friday night at the Columbia Icefield Arena.  The Warriors were without five of their regular players and put forth a determined effort but came up short in the end.

Western (7-0-2) picked up their seventh win of the season thanks to a three goal first period with left winger Tyler Peters (Sarnia, Ont.) scoring back to back power play goals late in the frame.  Steve Reese (Dorchester, Ont.) added the other first period goal at the nine minute mark.

Waterloo fought their way back into the game in the second period with Kirt Hill (Winnipeg/) and Tyler Moir (Calgary/) scoring their ninth and fourth goals of the season respectively, both on the power play.

Waterloo would continue to pressure the Mustangs but could not find the equalizer before a Waterloo penalty would give Western another power play opportunity.  The squad in purple would make no mistake with their third power play goal of the game as Shaun Furlong (London, Ont.) would notch his first goal of the season.

Waterloo would outshoot the Mustangs 17-3 in the third period but would come away empty handed, falling to the Mustangs 4-2.  Hartigan made 28 saves on 32 shots while Alain Valiquette (Sudbury, Ont.) was busy stopping 35 of 37 shots for the win.

Waterloo is back in action next week as they host the Guelph Gryphons (live on SSN) on Thursday at the CIF arena followed by the York Lions on Friday (Think Pink game).  Both games are set for 7:30pm.
