Game Summary

The Waterloo Warriors lost their second straight game falling to cross-town rivals, Laurier Golden Hawks by a score of 4-2 on Sunday evening at the Waterloo Memorial Rec Complex.  The Warriors outshot the Hawks 42-22 but could not solve Laurier keeper Ryan Daniels (Pickering, Ont.) who made 40 saves for the win.

With the loss Waterloo fell to 4-3-0 on the season but remain in third place in the always competitive OUA west with 8 points.  For Laurier this was their first victory of the season and now sit in second last with a 1-5-1 record.

Laurier jumped on the Warriors early and often in the contest, scoring three times in a three minute span the opening period to establish a comfortable lead. Zackory Ray of Oakville, Ont., got things started with his first of the season before Tyler Stothers of Oakville, Ont., and Brook Albion of Milton, Ont., beat Waterloo netminder Keaton Hartigan (Kitchener/) of Kitchener, Ont., to open up the three goal advantage.

Waterloo would get on the board with a powerplay goal from Tyler Moir (Calgary/) of Calgary, midway through the second period. However, the Hawks would respond with a powerplay marker of their own late in the frame by Frank Riddle of St. Catharines, Ont., to restore the three goal lead.

The Warriors would continue to press in the third period, firing 16 shots at Daniels. Andy Smith (Rosetown/) of Rosetown, Sask., was finally able to slip one past him with less than two minutes remaining in the game but Waterloo would get no closer as the Hawks celebrated their opening victory of the season.
The powerplay was a key advantage for Laurier in the game as the team went two for five with the man-advantage.  The Warriors managed just the one goal on six opportunities.

Waterloo returns home for the first time since Thanksgiving weekend to host the UOIT Ridgebacks (1-6-0) on Friday, November 4 at the CIF arena, a game that can be seen live on the Streaming Sports Network (SSN Canada).
