Game Summary
The Ryerson Rams recorded their first OUA win with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the CIF arena. Lauren McCusker (Nemarket, Ont.) scored with 4:18 remaining in the game and Emma Crawley (Herring Cove, NS) stopped all 21 shots faced to secure the win.
Prior to the game the Warriors celebrated their home opener with a ceremonial puck drop kicking off their 10
th anniversary season with former athletic director Judy McCrae and the first ever captain of the Warriors, Lindsay Wood dropping the puck.
With the loss Waterloo fell to 1-2-0 on the season while Ryerson improved to 1-2-0 creating a log jam for seventh place in the OUA standings.
Waterloo had an opportunity to equalize the game late in the third on the power play but could not solve McCusker on several point blank chances.
Waterloo athlete of the week
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) was solid between the pipes for the Warriors stopping 20 of 21 shots faced but did not get the offensive support to pick up her second win of the season.
Waterloo returns to action this afternoon as they face the Toronto Varsity Blues (1-1-0) at the CIF Arena.
