The Waterloo Warriors overcame a slow start and defeated the visiting Brock Badgers 90-89 in OUA league play on Wednesday night.

The Warriors had scored just six points in the first 6 minutes of play and were behind 15-6 at the first time out. Eventually the Badgers would hold a 12 point lead before Waterloo started to narrow the gap. The second quarter was a complete reversal of the first as Waterloo finally tied it at 35-35 on a Cam McIntyre (Kitchener/Kitchener C.I.) three with 2 minutes remaining in the half. Waterloo led by 2 at the break, by a score of 39-37.

The second half was all offense as each team scored over 50 in the half.

Waterloo shot over 50% for the second half, although just 1 of 7 from long range. Brock was just under 50% for the half.

Waterloo led the half for all but a brief moment. With Waterloo holding a 7 point lead with just over four minutes remaining Brock went on an 8-0 run to take an 82-81 lead. Waterloo was able to recover the lead and hold on the rest of the way. A Cam McIntyre (Kitchener, Ont.) free throw with 3 seconds remaining made it a four point difference. Brock heaved in a three from long range at the buzzer to make it a one point game.

For the Badgers, Andrew Kraus had 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Mark Gibson with 20 and Mike Cruickshank with 19 rounded out the top scorers.

Waterloo and Brock both have 5-4 records, tied for fourth spot with Western in the tight OUA West. Next game for Waterloo is Saturday as they visit the cross-town rivals, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. Game time at WLU is 2:00pm.
