Warriors keep on rolling with straight set victory over Hawks

The Warriors won their fifth straight game as they defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks in straight sets on Wednesday night at the Athletic Complex.  Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.

With the win, the Warriors (8-8) improved their record to .500 for the first time this season and take over sole possession of fifth place in the OUA.  The Hawks fell to 7-9 and sit two points back of Waterloo in sixth place.

Leading the charge for the Warriors was rookie sensation Fiodar Kazhamiaka (Waterloo, Ont.) who led all players with 16 kills.  The computer science student also added five digs and two assisted blocks to round out his outstanding performance.  Fourth year outside hitter Matt Snyder (Kitchener, Ont.) added 10 kills for the Warriors.  Athlete of the week Scott Thomson (St. Marys, Ont.) contributed an impressive 39 assists in the victory.

For the Hawks, Cameron Wheelan (Barrie, Ont.) and Derek Lapp (Chatham, Ont.) totalled for 22 kills between the both of them. Setter Erik Kroman (Etobicoke, Ont.) assisted the ball 25 times, had four digs and one total blocked shot on the night.

The Warriors will take the weekend off to prepare for two big road matches next weekend as they battle the Windsor Lancer and top team in the OUA, Western Mustangs on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5.
