The Guelph Gryphons started the fourth quarter with an 18-6 run and Waterloo was unable to mount a full comeback and lost an OUA league game to the Gryphons by a score of 87-80. The outcome was decided at the free throw line as Guelph hit on 30 of 38 attempts, while Waterloo was successful on just 14 of 23.

The first half was a tight game as neither team was able to put together a sustained run. Waterloo momentarily held a six point advantage to start the second quarter, but Guelph came back to hold a 39-36 lead at half time.

After Guelph opened a 7 point lead early in the third, Waterloo went on a 12-0 run to reclaim the lead and hold a two point advantage heading into the final frame. The Guelph start in the fourth provided a 10 point cushion. Waterloo mounted a spirited comeback, but 4 for 8 shooting from the line did not help their cause.

Waterloo was again unable to contain Mike Petralla, as he hit for 32 points to lead all scorers. Dan McCarthy added 18 points for the Gryphons. Tim Rossy (Winnipeg, Man.) had a career best 24 points to lead the Warriors. Cam McIntyre (Kitchener, Ont.) added 18 points.

With the loss Waterloo drops to 6-8 on the season and are tied with the Western Mustangs for the final playoff position. Guelph improves to 5-9 and are just one game behind.

Next game for Waterloo is Wednesday night when they host the McMaster Marauders. Game time is 8:00pm at the PAC.
