The Warriors continued to shine in 2011 wining their fourth straight match defeating the Toronto Varsity Blues in straight sets on Friday evening at the PAC in Waterloo.
The first two sets were completed in just under 40 minutes as the Warriors were swinging freely, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-16.
The third set saw the Warriors once again take control of the set. Up by eight, the Varsity Blues began to battle back hungry for another set. The Warriors would foil any comeback hopes of the Blues taking the third set 25-23.
Leading the charge for the black and gold was a pair of outside hitters, Fiodar Kazhamiaka (Waterloo, Ont.) and Matt Snyder (Kitchener, Ont.) who each had seven kills. Kazhamiaka added five digs and one block while Snyder had two blocks. Setter Scott Thomson (St. Marys, Ont.) had 24 assists on the night and was named player of the match for Waterloo.
For the Blues, middle Adam Palmer (Ottawa, Ont.) finished with seven kills, two digs and two blocks. Outside hitter Matthew Vares (Scarborough, Ont.) out down six kills to contribute to Toronto's attack.
With the win, the Warriors improved to 7-8 and now sit tied for fifth place with the Laurier Golden Hawks. The Blues dropped to 3-10 on the season.
The Warriors have the remainder of the weekend off before facing their cross-town rivals at Laurier next Wednesday, January 26.
