Elizabeth Kench (Gananoque, Que.) of the Queen's Gaels scored a goal in each of the three periods to down the Warriors 3-0 in the first game of 2011 for both teams on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo.

Kench opened the scoring for the Gaels with a goal four minutes into the game. Becky Conroy of Pembroke, Ont., had an assist on the goal which would be her first of three in the game as she assisted all three of Kench's goals.

The second period saw the Warriors get into penalty trouble taking four straight penalties with Warrior netminder Martina Michaud (Etobicoke, Ont.) being the best penalty killer making save after save.  The Gaels would outshoot the Warriors 16-2 in the second period with Kench scoring her second of the game late in the third period.

Kench sealed the victory for the Gaels in the third period scoring six minutes into the third on the power play to give her Gaels a crucial two points as Queen's makes their push for the playoffs.

Gaels goalie Karissa Savage (Calgary, Alta.) made 17 saves for the shutout while Michaud was stellar between the pipes for Waterloo stopping 41 of 44 shots.

The Warriors look to rebound tomorrow afternoon as they host the UOIT Ridgebacks at 2:00 pm.

The Warriors won their fourth game of the season in thrilling fashion on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 4-3 in a shootout at the CIF Arena in Waterloo.  Brittany Holland (Lisle, Ont.) scored the only goal of the shootout while Martina Michaud (Etobicoke, Ont.) made 30 saves and stopped all three shooters in the victory.

Holland opened the scoring for the Warriors at the 14:46 minute mark of the first period on the power play with assists going to Karen Vanderhoek (Burlington, Ont.) and Kathryn Roy (Owen Sound, Ont.).

UOIT evened the score at one four minutes later defenceman Violette Long (Oshawa, Ont.) scoring her first goal of the season.  Waterloo would respond only 13 seconds later as rookieOna Mezenberg (Owen Sound, Ont.) scored her third of the season to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead heading into the locker room.

Following a scoreless second period, the Ridgebacks would once again even the game off the stick of Melissa Berney (Bowmanville, Ont.) on the powerplay.  Warriors would take the lead for the third time in the game six minutes later as Lindsey Ceaser (Owen Sound/) notched her third goal of the season.

With Waterloo up 3-2 late in the third period, the Warriors look destined to win their fourth game of the year in regulation, but following a hand puck in the crease, UOIT was given one last chance to tie the game with leading goal scorer Jill Morillo (Whitby, Ont.) being awarded a penalty shot.  Morillo made a couple of nifty moves and slid the puck ever so slowly on the backhand past Michaud to send the game into overtime.

With the extra frame settling nothing, Michaud would stop all three UOIT shooters while the Warriors second shooter Holland would equal Morillo's move on the penalty shot going to her backhand to beat Ridgebacks keeper Jessica Larabie (Pickering, Ont.).

Waterloo will face off against the top team in the country next weekend as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday, January 16 at the CIF Arena.  Puck drop is set for 2:00 pm.
