Saturday, Sept. 26 vs. Queen's
Game 1 – Waterloo 13, Queen's 1
Waterloo started their weekend off right with a 13-1 win over the visiting Queens Gaels, to run their winning streak to four games. Waterloo jumped out to an early lead, scoring four in the third inning from a two out grand slam by Thomas Biskup (Markham/). Biskup finished the day with two hits and 5 RBI's. Waterloo added 5 more runs in the fourth and never looked back. Craig Van Ooteghem (Kitchener/) had three hits and an rbi, while Chris Ryan (Waterloo/) had two hits and two RBI's. Lee Mathe (Milton/) also chipped in with two hits. Starter Adam Lentz (Calgary/) picked up the win, going six innings, allowing one run on 5 hits and striking out 12.
Game 2 – Waterloo 10, Queen's 6
In game two, Waterloo made it five in a row with a 10-6 come from behind win. Waterloo fell behind early and trailed 6-3 after four innings, but rallied late with five runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to pick up their sixth win of the year. Starter Stefan Sawicky (Ajax/) picked up his second win of the season, lasting 4 innings, allowing six runs (4 earned) on seven hits and he struck out eight. Joel Smith (Chatham/) and Dexter Chu (Mississauga/) threw the final two innings, shutting out Queens to secure the win. Rookie Scott Boegal had three hits and an RBI in his first start of the year. Thomas Biskup (Markham/) also had three hits and two RBI's, while Chris Ryan (Waterloo/) also chipped in with two hits, improving the Warriors record to 6-4.
Sunday, Sept. 26 @ Laurier
Game 1 – Laurier 5, Waterloo 4
Waterloo's win streak was stopped at five as they lost to Laurier 5-4 in game one of the double header on Sunday. Waterloo jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning, but then were shut down by Laurier pitching as they failed to score again. Waterloo held a 4-3 lead into the ninth inning but after a leadoff walk, and an infield, Lauriers's Nathan Lohele hit a three run walk off home run to hand Waterloo its first loss in six games, dropping their record to 6-5. Starter Brandon Beattie (St. Catharines/) left the game with the lead, allowing two runs (1 earned) and he struck out three. Reliever Mike Gatchne took the loss. Thomas Biskup (Markham/) led the way offensively for the Warriors with two hits, while Dave Allen also chipped in with two hits.
Game 2 – Waterloo 1, Laurier 0
Waterloo picked up its seventh win of the year, improving their record to 7-5, with a 1-0 win over Laurier in game two. In a real pitchers dual, Waterloo was able to cash a run in thet hird inning and shut down Laurier the rest of the way to secure the victory. Starter Anthony Douris (Newmarket/) picked up the win, going six and two-third innings allowing no runs on three hits and he walked two. Dexter Chu (Mississauga/) came on in the bottom of the seventh with two on and two out and got the only batter he faced to pop out to earn the save. Waterloo now stands at 7-5, good for fourth place in the OUA, and head to Brock next Saturday to close out the regular season.
