The Warriors fell for the second straight game to a nationally ranked team as the Guelph Gryphons (no. 8 in the nation) downed the Waterloo Warriors 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo.  The Gryphons scored four unanswered goals to snap a four game losing streak and improve their record to 10-4-2.  The Warriors fell to 3-13-1 on the season.

Waterloo forward JessiJessica Tracey (Woodslee) opened the scoring just four minutes into the game as she showed some beautiful hand eye coordination tipping home a Karen Vanderhoek (Burlington, Ont.) point shot.  Captain Caitlin Brydges (Ariss, Ont.) picked up the assist on the goal.

The Gryphons responded six minutes later as Jacklyn Upchan (Hanmer, Ont.) won a battle along the boards and went down on a 2-on-1 with teammate Tamara Bell (Guelph, Ont.) who made no mistake on the pass from Upchan.  Bell's goal was her sixth of the season.

Guelph would take the lead two minutes on a beautiful play from Jacky Sollis (Vancouver, B.C.) as she would skate around the net and slide a pass out to Tayne Hewer (Barrie, Ont.) who fired the one time past Warrior goalie Martina Michaud (Etobicoke/).

Tori Woods would extend the Guelph lead late in the second period on a 5-on-3 power player as the Gryphons moved the puck around and Woods would tip home a bouncing puck past Michaud.  Hewer would put away the game late in the third period as she added her second goal of the game into the empty net to give Guelph the 4-1 win.

Michaud made 41 saves on 44 shots while Gryphons goalie Danielle Skourfranis (Thornhill, Ont.) stopped 12 of 13 shots for the win.

Waterloo head into the Christmas break sitting last in the OUA women's hockey division and will be hosting their annual Christmas Tournament December 28-30.  Click here to see the tournament schedule.
