The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks defeated the London Devillettes of the Ontario Women's Hockey Association 5-1 in the championship game of the Waterloo Warriors women's hockey Christmas tournament on Thursday at the CIF Arena in Waterloo.
The Hawks went 2-0 in the round robin defeating the KW Rangers 4-0 and slipping past the Brampton Thunder 5-4 in overtime. The semi finals saw the Hawks once again defeating the KW Rangers to punch their ticket to the finals against London who defeated Brampton 6-3 in the other semi final game.
The Devilettes and Hawks battled back and forth for the first forty minutes as they were locked 1-1 heading into the third period where Laurier took over the game scoring four unanswered goals in a span of seven minutes to take the championship trophy by a score of 5-1.
The Waterloo Warriors had a disappointing tournament losing both round robin games and eventually being ousted by Brampton 5-1 in the quarter-finals.
