The no. 2 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks shutout the Waterloo Warriors 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at the CIF arena in Waterloo.  Laurier peppered 55 shots towards the Waterloo goal and showed why they are one of the top teams in the country with their offensive power and skills on the defensive side of the puck.

The key to the victory for the Hawks was balanced scoring. All six Laurier goals were scored by different Lady Hawks. In the first period, Andrea Shapero (Toronto) registered her second goal of the season in what would eventually be the game winner. Caitlin Muirhead (Waterloo, Ont.) scored her first goal of the season and added an assist later in the game.

Also netting her first marker of the season was Heather Fortuna (Kitchener, Ont.) to put her Hawks up 3-0. Brittany Crago (Stouffville, Ont.) and Abby Rainsberry (Petrolia, Ont.) bot scored in the second period and their power play goals chased the Warriors goalie Martina Michaud (Etobicoke, Ont.) from the net. Michaud made 37 saves on 42 shots in her two periods of work.

She was replaced by Elizabeth Baverstock (Cambridge, Ont.) who played well in the third period, making 12 saves on 13 shots. The lone goal was scored by Laura Brooker (Fergus, Ont.), her sixth of the season. Credited with the assists were Candice Styles (Orangeville, Ont.) and Alicia Martin (Etobicoke, Ont.) Martin's three assists are a career high.

The Warriors (1-7-1) host a pair of games next weekend as part of the third annual Think Pink weekend.  The York Lions take on Waterloo on Saturday, November 13 while the Toronto Varsity Blues pay a visit on Sunday.  Come out and support your Waterloo Warriors and watch Waterloo co-op student Emma Glofcheski and Athletic Director Bob Copeland shave their heads to raise money for the Think Pink campaign during the second intermission of Sunday's game.
