Morgan McHaffie of Guelph, Ont., scored a pair of second period goals to lift the Queen's Gaels to a 4-2 win over the Waterloo Warriors Friday night at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
The victory snaps the Gaels five game winless slide and improves their record to 5-5-3 on the year. The Warriors drop to 2-9-1.
Queen's opened the scoring in the first period when Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont., notched her second goal of the season.
McHaffie would go to work midway through the second, scoring her two goals within two minutes of each other to give the Gaels a three goal cushion.
Waterloo would cut the lead to two late in the second period thank to a goal from Jessica Tracey of Woodslee, Ont., but Brittany McHaffie of the Gaels would score her first of the year to put the game out of reach.
The Warriors added a late goal from Emma McMillan of Hastings, Ont.
Karissa Savage of Calgary, picked up the win for Queen's as she stopped 14 shots. Martina Michaud of Etobicoke, Ont., suffered the loss letting three goals in on 24 shots, while Emma Meanor (Morell/) let in one on nine shots.

The Warriors dropped to 2-10-1 on the season losing a tight battle to the UOIT Ridgebacks 4-3 on Saturday afternoon in Oshawa. Meghan Steacy of Gananoque, Ont., scored three goals to lead UOIT to victory. The Ridgebacks scored an early third period goal to take a 4-1 lead which proved insurmountable for the Warriors who could only respond twice in the third to lose by one.
The Ridgebacks opened the scoring late in the first period as Steacy scored her third goal of the season giving UOIT a 1-0 lead.
Waterloo would respond three minutes later as rookie defenceman Kathryn Roy (Owen Sound, Ont.)netted her second of the season on the powerplay. Caitlin Brydges (Ariss, Ont.) and Nicole Hébert (Toronto, Ont.) picked up the helpers.
UOIT would take the lead back 12 seconds later as Steacy would add her second of the game with beautiful work by her line-mates Jaclyn Gibson and Jordan Whately sending UOIT up by one into the second frame.
Steacy would complete the hat trick midway through the second period as she snipped her fifth goal on the season to give UOIT a 3-1 lead. That would be all the scoring in the second period as the Ridgebacks took their two goal lead into the third period.
UOIT athlete of the week Jill Morillo (Whitby, Ont.) added to the lead just one minute into the third period giving her Ridgebacks a comfortable 4-1 lead. Waterloo would add two late third period goals as Roy scored her second of the game and Hebert added her fifth but it was too little too late as Waterloo would lose their third straight game.
The Warriors travel to Windsor and Western next weekend for a pair of road afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday.
