Warriors fall twice at home

Friday, November 19 vs. Windsor
Windsor 3, Waterloo 2 (26-24, 27-29, 11-25, 25-17, 15-11)

The Warriors lost a see-saw battle to the Windsor Lancers on Friday night at the PAC Gym in Waterloo.

Following two tight sets to open the match, Waterloo dominated the third winning 25-11 and looked in control heading into the fourth.  The Lancers who seemed rattled by a tough third set responded with a dominating set of their own winning 25-17 sending the match into the fifth and final set.

Following back and forth action between the two teams with big blocks and a strong offensive attack by the Warrior outside hitters, the Lancers sprung away late in the set winning several points in a row and winning the eventual fifth and final set by a score of 15-11.

Rookie outside hitter Fiodar Kazhamiaka (Waterloo, Ont.) led the offensive charge with 17 kills and five blocks.  Second year hitter James Evans (Rockwood, Ont.) had 16 kills while adding two blocks and one service ace.  Second year setter Scott Thomson (St. Marys, Ont.) was stellar all game long as he notched 52 assists in the five set match.

Third year hitter Kyle Williamson (Essex, Ont.) of the Lancers had 16 kills and 10 blocks to lead his team to victory.  Also chipping in offensively was Harrison Oake (Rodney, Ont.) and Josh Edwards (Kingston, Ont.) who each had 11 kills.

The Warriors look to get their season back on track on Saturday night as they host the undefeated Western Mustangs.

Saturday, November 20 vs. Western

The Warriors fell to 2-7 on the season as the undefeated Western Mustangs (8-0) handed Waterloo their third straight loss.

Waterloo opened the game on a high note, winning the first set 25-23 as they showed their passing and hitting skills early and often.  The loss seemed to spark the Western Mustangs offence as they powered their way to victory with three straight set victories (16, 14 and 17).

Waterloo had a well balanced offensive attack as second year hitter Aleks Poldma (Toronto, Ont.) led the way with nine kills while James Evans (Rockwood/Warriors) added eight and Fiodar Kazhamiaka (Waterloo/) put down six while adding 11 digs.  Scott Thomson (St. Marys/) had two service aces and accumulated 33 assists on the night.
