The Waterloo Warriors dropped to 2-8-1 on the season following a hard-fought 5-4 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon at the CIF Arena.  The game was the final varsity game of the Waterloo athletics department Think Pink weekend with co-op student Emma Glofcheski and director Bob Copeland getting their heads shaved as part of a money raising effort for the Think Pink campaign.

Waterloo and Toronto battled back and forth all game long in a see-saw affair which saw Waterloo take the lead four different times only to have the Varsity Blues respond each time.  Toronto took their first lead of the game late in the third period and Waterloo could not respond as the Blues won their sixth game of the season to move one game above .500 (6-5-0).

Ona Mezenberg (Owen Sound, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Warriors in the first period picking up a rebound off of a Sarah Endicott (Toronto, Ont.) point shot.  Amanda Ricker answered for the Blues on the power play tipping a Bianca Mirabelli shot past the Warriors netminder Martina Michaud (Etobicoke, Ont.).

Warriors forward Brittany Holland (Lisle, Ont.) gave Waterloo a 2-1 lead showing nice patience to pick up a rebound from the shot of Karen Vanderhoek (Burlington, Ont.) and sliding a backhand past Blues goalie Kendyl Valenta.  Callie Bazak would respond for Toronto once again on the power play firing a booming shot through a maze of players and finding the top corner over the glove of Michaud to send the game into the second period tied at two.

The trend would continue in the second period as the Warriors took the lead for the third time as Waterloo captain Caitlin Brydges (Ariss, Ont.) found the net for the second time this season giving the Warriors a 3-2 lead.  Toronto responded five minutes later with Brenley Jorgensen receiving a nice pass from Karolina Urban and made no mistake scoring low glove side on Michaud.

Waterloo would once again score the go ahead goal late in the second period as Emma McMillan (Hastings, Ont.) slid a beautiful pass out front to Sarah McCorquodale (Embro, Ont.) who sniped it between the legs of Valenta to put Waterloo up 4-3 heading into the third period.

The Blues would even the game at four early in the third as Jorgensen would put in her second of the game (seventh on the season) with a snap shot from the slot.  Toronto would take their first lead of the game to clinch their victory on a 5-on-3 power play.

The Blues displayed some nice puck movement as they continually set up Emily Milito on the far post.  Following two missed shots, Milito made good on the third receiving a beautiful pass from Darby Smith and firing the one-timer shot over Michaud's glove to give Toronto the big 5-4 win.

Waterloo travels to Kingston next weekend to take on the Queen's Gaels on Friday night and follows it up with a match against the UOIT Ridgeback on Saturday.
