Warriors give up final minute goal to fall to 0-2 on season

The Warriors lost their second game of the season in a tight battle against the UOIT Ridgebacks on Saturday afternoon.  Waterloo rookie netminder Martina Michaud (Etobicoke/) made 35 saves to keep the Warriors in the game.

UOIT opened the scoring with Vanessa Johnstone scoring her first of the year 15:48 into the first period.  Warrior captain Caitlin Brydges (Ariss, Ont.) tied the game up at one early in the second period with Emma McMillan (Hastings, Ont.) picking up the assist.  Jessica Tracey (Woodslee, Ont.) put the Warriors up 2-1 eight minutes later and Waterloo had the lead heading into the third period.  McMillan and Brydges each picked up their second points of the game with assists on the Tracey goal.

The third saw the  Ridgebacks even the score at two as Jadyn Gibson netted her first goal of the season with only nine minutes remaining in the game.  Forward Sarah Worthington would notch  the game winning goal with 57 second remaining on the clock to give the Ridgebacks their first victory of the season and hand Waterloo a tough loss to swallow.


The Warriors look to bounce back in their home opener on Saturday, October 16 as part of Hockey Day in Waterloo.  The Toronto Varsity Blues (0-2-0) will also be looking for their first win of the season as they pay a visit to the black and gold.  The game can be seen live on the SSN (Streaming Sports Network) Canada network.  Click here to access the live feed during the game.
