Eric Ciezar returns to lead the women's rugby program for the 2019 season.
A graduate of UWaterloo in Mathematics, Ciezar led the Warriors for 13 years from 1997-2010, the most successful period for the women's rugby program. Ciezar accumulated a winning record of 70-37-3, while leading the Warriors to two OUA gold medals (2000, 2001), three silver medals (2001, 2003, 2007) and three OUA bronze medals (1998, 2002, 2006). Ciezar was also a student-athlete at Waterloo playing for the men's rugby team from 1988-93.
On the national stage, Ciezar guided the black and gold to three medals; two Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) bronze medals (1999, 2000) and one silver in 2001. What was labelled as his favourite moment of his 13-year coaching career at Waterloo will also be one that Ciezar wishes could be replayed, the 2001 National Championship game against Alberta; the elusive national title Ciezar hopes will be in the cards in his return. Overall, Ciezar led the black and gold to five national championships.
Ciezar has been a teacher at Bluevale Collegiate Institute for the last 25 years and introduced rugby to Bluevale back in 2007, guiding the Knights to three straight senior boys' championships. The NCCP Level 2 certified coach has also led the Waterloo County U-19's, Waterloo County Women's team and Northland Rugby Union Senior Rep Squad. Currently, Ciezar is head coach of the Waterloo County Women's Rugby team.
