Four members of women's hockey to represent Canada at 2023 FISU Winter University Games

Four members of women's hockey will swap their black and gold for red and white next month as they have been selected to represent Canada at the 2023 FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, NY form January 12 to 22. Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/) and Carley Olivier (Sudbury, ON/) will suit up for Team Canada while Athletic Therapist Jacqueline Schwantz and Equipment Manager Matt Sinclair will be key parts of Canada's staff at the event. 

2021-22 OUA West MVP Carley Olivier (Sudbury, ON/) and OUA West Forward of the Year Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/) have picked up where they left off last season with outstanding starts to the 2022-23 season. Herrfort leads all OUA scorers with 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points while Olivier is top in defensive scoring with four goals and eight assists for 12 points. Both will be instrumental is Canada hopes to reach the top of the podium.  At the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, the Canadians earned the silver medal, falling 2-0 to the host Russians in the gold medal game. University of Montréal's Annabel Faubert is the sole returner to the roster from the 2019 Games.

"I am very excited for Leah and Carley who will no doubt be key players for Team Canada," said Warriors head coach Shaun Reagan. "Anytime you get to represent your country on the international stage is a big deal and they should both be very proud of their selection. We look forward to watching their success in New York next month."

Led by head coach Greg Bowles, the roster is comprised of four student-athletes from the Canada West conference, five from Ontario University Athletics, eight from the RSEQ conference, and five from the Atlantic University Sport conference.

Schwantz who is in her 10th year with the Warriors will be the Head Athletic Therapist for Team Canada while Sinclair is in his ninth season with Waterloo will handle the equipment duties for the team throughout the event. 

Team Canada opens its schedule on Wednesday, January 11th against Slovakia at 8 PM ET.
